Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): Uses and Risks

In the recent times, science and especially the medical world has progressed in leaps and bounds. Childless couples could now benefit from various techniques that could make them parents. One such technique that is now being seen as a boon is the Intra Uterine Insemination. This article will take you through the term to explain the meaning and the associated risks involved with it.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI treatments in Andhra Pradesh) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. The aim of IUI is to increase the number of sperms that tend to finally reach the fallopian tubes and thereby increase the chance of fertilization. As compared to in vitro fertilization this procedure seems to be a better option since it is less invasive. This technique just gives a push or head start to the sperms to fertilize the egg of the female.

When is IUI used?

One of the most commonly asked questions is that why or when is Intra Uterine Insemination used? Well the most common reason here that can be stated is that when the sperm count of the male partner is low or even when there seems to be an issue with the mobility of the sperm of the male. However, there are many other reasons due to which Intrauterine insemination treatments in Andhra Pradesh can be suggested as a method or a way out.

  1. When the reasons for infertility cannot be explained
  2. When the condition of the cervix is hostile or in another words it is not conducive enough for childbirth, such condition can be cervical mucus problems
  3. Cervical scar tissue from past procedures as this may be an obstacle in the path of the sperms on their way to enter the uterus
  4. Ejaculation dysfunction

Not recommended for?

If you think that IUI is a procedure that all childless couples can use, then it is not the case. In fact there are many other to whom the procedure is not safe enough to be carried out as well…
• Women who have severe disease of the fallopian tubes
• Women with a history of pelvic infections
• Women with moderate to severe endometriosis

Risks involved can be…

IUI when combined with fertility medication may result in multiple fetuses being present in the uterus. Of course, there are chances that some kind of slight infection is there. Hence one has to be careful and opt for regular checkups.

The chances of getting pregnant are lesser than IVF however this procedure is less time consuming and costs less too than an IVF. The success of IUI depends on several factors. If a couple has the IUI procedure performed each month, success rates may reach as high as 20% per cycle depending on variables such as female age, the reason for infertility, and whether fertility drugs were used, among other variables.
